Overview
Rob Thompson, Chief Digital, Data and Technology Officer of the Home Office updates us on AI progress from a government perspective.
AI in Government
Twelve months ago David Knott of the Cabinet Office told us of government plans to improve services and efficiency through the application of AI. A year on, and we are excited to hear an update on progress from Rob Thompson, Chief Digital, Data and Technology Officer of the Home Office.
The Home Office has one of the most prominent missions in UK government – to keep the country safe and secure. In recent years it has invested heavily in building Digital services that automate and engage with over 200m people every year, notable examples of this being eGates, the UK Passport Service, national policing systems and digitally transforming the regular migration and visitor system. As AI and Machine Learning advances, Rob will talk about its real world application, how they went about it, and the practical challenges that they faced.
Following a short break, AI Subject Advisor Barry Claydon and the "AI for Everyone" team will host an update and discussion.
The session will include time for Q&A, and will be chaired by Russell Whitworth of the u3a "AI for Everyone" team.
